ABOUT
Sofia Blind, literary translator & author, ex-radio journalist and gardener

TRANSLATIONS
I translate literary non-fiction books and art texts from English and French into German; among others, books by John Lewis-Stempel, Nigel Slater, Will Gompertz, Grayson Perry and Helen Jukes. Areas of interest: art, photography, psychology, nature writing, gardening/cooking.

BOOKS
In addition to translating, I have written three books:

Wörter, die es nicht auf Hochdeutsch gibt ("Words that do not exist in written German"), DuMont 2019 (4th printing 2021) is a collection of fifty non-translatable terms from various German dialects, with Illustrations by Nikolaus Heidelbach.

Die alten Obstsorten ("Heirloom Fruit Varieties"), DuMont 2020 (3rd printing 2021) contains about 150 portraits of old varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and other fruit, with historical illustrations, interesting stories and chapters on the history, cultivation and culinary uses of old fruit varieties.

Historische Rosen ("Historic Roses"), published in September 2023, presents about one hundred old rose varieties and wild roses with their fascinating stories, along with historic rose portraits by the celebrated French rose painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Chapters on the history, uses and cultivation of roses complement the book.
